Chinese Airline Brings Runway Haute Couture to Airplane Aisles
We look to designers, models, celebrities, stylists, blogs, and Instagram for styling ideas and to stay current with fashion trends, but will we soon be scoping out uniformed employees for our next outfit inspiration? I was a combination of blow away and relieved when I came across the news of of Hainan Airlines' new haute couture uniforms for their flight crew members. I think ever fashion lover and/or self expressionist from the beginning of time have dreamed for a time like this where uniforms were made to look stylish AND convey a message.
Recently, Hainan Airlines collaborated with designer Laurence Xu to bring a haute couture to their brand, more specifically to the faces of their brand. The new uniforms, which were featured in Paris Couture Week earlier this year, were inspired by the Cheongsam, the traditional Chinese dress, and features Western fashion trends and Chinese art elements, such as cloud drawings, waves, and the Chinese mythical bird. Xu Fei, the brand director of Hainan Airlines, commented that the new look was not only to develop a new uniform but to international the image of their airline and to let their customers to know that China is mordern and edgy. Hainan Airlines have set a new standard for not only airline uniforms but company uniforms in general. I hope other brands look at the much needed modern transition this company made and follow suits. It's 2017 and we're tired of the unflattering and unappealing uniforms and dress codes for businesses, schools, etc. We're living in a time when self expression means everything and so does looking great because it makes you feel great. Imagine being required to come to work or school in haute couture. Wouldn't you be excited to come to work and don't you think you'd do your job 10x better because of how great you feel? I'm hoping this is the beginning of a new wave of new looks for the faces of brands.
Start a discussion in the comments! Do you think Hainan Airlines is starting a new wave for company uniforms or do you think this is too much for work and distracting? Wouldn't you be more productive and motivated at work if you looked and felt fresh off the runway or do you disagree?
